The restoration plan for the complex, which was in a very deteriorated condition after being abandoned for years, was a Brasil Arquitetura Studio initiative, supported by the municipal administration of Registro and the state government. Priority was given to the restoration of the oficial historical heritage site, the remains of which carried great significance for the local population because directly related to the town’s origins. Along with restoring the buildings, a historical reference institution was established, the Memorial to the Vale do Ribeira Japanese Immigration. This museum has a significant collection, provided by artists of Japanese origin living in Brazil, along with photographs, tools, industrial equipment and other donated items, assembled to illustrate the story of Japanese immigration in the region.

The second important aspect is the integration of these revitalized heritage buildings with their historic and environmental landscape, relating them to the city and to the river in a broader project, the Beira-Rio Park. The objective is to restore the riverbanks and control the floods, integrating the set with the city by means of designing a market square, establishing communication routes and flux control, combined strategies to recover the historic relation of the city with the river.
