From outside, the building appears as an orthogonal box with its two main façades protected by continuous panels of trellised woodwork. In order to control luminosity and shield from the direct sun, the façades are protected with this panelling, composed by juxtaposed two-dimensional modules of treated pinewood blades attached by bolts to the metal structure. These huge brise-soleil panels evoke both the tradition of colonial trellises and their adoption by modern architecture, notably in the work of Lucio Costa. They also refer to the Venetian blinds, used in the windows and in internal partitions. This time, the trellised panels have become the central element of design, and have conquered the façades.

The building’s basic idea is the integration of spaces within the building and with the surrounding city. The atrium, five storeys high, presents itself as a continuation of the street, with its shops alternating with vistas to the external landscape. In the four floors designated to office space, the access to the office units is made by the winding terraced corridors overlooking the atrium, converting the circulation scheme into a formal element of design and a life enhancing factor for the building. When observing the atrium from above it is impossible not to be reminded of Niemeyer’s Bienal pavilion in Ibirapuera Park, São Paulo, a felicitous quotation.

The key element of the design is in its structural and formal expression and in the generosity of the shared spaces, a homage to the founding ideal of the city of Brasília and to its designers.
